Olaplex, K18, plex this, plex that. Here's what they actually do — and when they're a waste of money.
Why this comes up
A version of this question lands in the inbox every week — sometimes from clients we've known for years, more often from people about to book their first appointment. It deserves a proper answer rather than a quick reply, so here's one.
We'll lay out how we think about it in the salon, what we'd recommend for the most common scenarios, and where the trade-offs really sit. None of this is sponsored, and none of it is one-size-fits-all — but it's a good starting point for the conversation you'll have at your next visit.
What we'd actually do
Start with the consultation. We can't emphasise this enough — the best technical work in the world is wasted if it's solving the wrong problem. Bring photos of what you like, and photos of what you've been told doesn't suit you. Both are useful.
From there, we build a plan in stages. Some things should happen in one appointment; some things genuinely shouldn't. Anyone promising the latter in one sitting is selling you a haircut, not a relationship with your hair.
“The goal is hair that looks like yours, on the best day you've ever had it. Anything else is theatre.”
One last thing
If you've read this far and you're still unsure — that's exactly what the complimentary consultation is for. Book one, bring your questions, and we'll go from there.
